04 Honda Accord v6 auto( need some advice)
I bought this Honda Accord off my friend the transmission is doing strange things the light will blink on the dashboard sometimes when I'm driving it seems it goes from 1st to 3rd to 2nd all over and sometimes it goes nowhere but if I turn the key off and turn it back on it's fine do I have internal transmission problems or do I have electrical problem? Any information would be great thank you
If the D4 light blinks, you have a transmission DTC stored. Use a scan tool (or AutoZone etc) to retrieve the stored code. Even if the light turns off, (provided you did not remove the battery cables to reset it) the code will still exist. Start here.
The next thing would be to check the fluid level. Also inspect the underside of the vehicle for fluid leaks.
Next I would consider any recent maintenance that included the transmission or related parts, such as the radiator.
If these previous items are in specification, you are suffering from some gear engagement problem, the causes are many:
1: Poor oil pump output.
2: Stuck or other mechanical blockage in the linear solenoids. (Points to excessive clutch wear)
3: General clutch wear. (Blocks oil passages to solenoids)
4: Leaking clutch apply pistons. (Caused normally by excessive clutch wear or damaged seals)
Start with the DTC first, and report back.
