Valve lash and carbon
Here's some random advise to consider on valve adjustments:
I've been performing valve lash adjustments on the various Hondas I've owned over the last 18 years or so, and one issue I've encountered often is valve tap caused by carbon build up on the valve seat rather than out of spec valve lash. This typically happens after a sea foam treatment. Chunks of carbon that are loosed from the treatment are ground into the valve seat during the operation of the exhaust valves causing incorrect lash and a bad seal. In my experience it presents itself as valve tap.
My 06 CRV was the latest victim to experience this.
Long story short if you've got noisy valves (especially after a proper lash adjustment) try decarbonizing your combustion chamber. I'd recommend decarbonizing before a valve adjustment as well to ensure properly seated valves before taking measurements.
Combustion is dirty business...
