Default painting side molding/ side skirts

Hi Honda-Tech, I'm taking my EJ6 hatch to Maaco to get painted. No, it's not the $300 spray over. I'm pretty sure they're not going to paint over my OEM side molding or side skirts. So here's my dilemma. They quoted me $300 to paint and prime over the texture (so it was smooth) of those "carbon fiber" thin side moldings on ebay. My side skirts would probably cost even more. So I want to do it myself. I would actually be painting EK9 side moldings when I get them. My car would be going to the shop with the skirts off and the side molding pulled off. My best guess for having those parts painted is an additional $400-500, and I'm just not looking to sink that much money into this car.

I need a good guide to do this, and an idea of the cost, time, and prep needed for this job. I'd be painting the car a simple black, and I'll try to find out what the car is getting painted with so I can get a close match for the skirts and trim.

you'd want to scuff them with a gray scuff pad and get adhesive promoter then id prime it and seal it then shoot your color...

I'm not going to cheap out on prep, just wondering if there was a definitive go-to guide.

how much are you paying? would be better for you to buy paint and clear and hardner/reducer and see if you can find a guy to shoot the paint/clear for you.

you will have more coats

I spoke to the right person at Maaco. $200 for the skirts and trim, no warranty but I can't warranty my own work either.

Wow $200 to spray some side skirts and moldings?!

You cant warranty your work but you could ensure its done correctly.
Look up how to paint new plastic bumpers. Many videos cover how to scuff a plastic part then how to use adhesion promoter, then you can look up how to paint if you have a compressor/paint gun.
Youl would need to buy adhesion promoter and base color/clear if you wanted to do it yourself.

The car was there with the parts loaded into the trunk so I said F***. Currently I'm moving and the weather has terrible, so it seemed worth it.
