Stumped with brake issue 96 accord
I bought this 96 accord yesterday, the guy couldn't figure out what was wrong with the brakes. He has replaced both calipers, pads and rotors. The issue is as soon as I hit the brakes both of them stick hard! Also noticed the pedal gets stiff when this happens too, I seen that he didn't replace the hoses but didn't think both would fail at the same time, what should I start looking into?
Do they stick even after you let off of the brake? Inspect the calibers (they may have an issue). If not, I'd try bleeding them. If that still doesn't help I'd start looking at the master cylinder.
No they only stick when I push the brake, haha kidding yes they still stick when I let off the brakes, I'll try and bleed them again and see if there is air in system, pedal is very hard though so I don't think there is, I may try new hoses and see what that does
At first I would think it could be a rubber brake hose that has collapses internally and is acting like a check valve. Are you sure that both calipers are locking up ? Or are you saying the pedal is locking up ? Did you check the brake pedal linkage ? You might want to check the rear drum brakes to see if anything is going on back there that is holding the pedal.
