LOUD idle noise coming from timing belt?
Hey guys and gals,
I've owned my car for a tiny bit now and this noise coming from the timing belt has been very loud lately. I've attached 2 videos so you can understand what I'm saying. If the volume doesn't work use headphones because that's what happened to me haha.
But yea its kinda like a constant highist pitched"budabudabudabudabuda" sound coming from the timing belt area. The prev owner has changed all fluids but hasn't done the timing belt plus water pump. The car has right now 119,000 kms and is a b18b1.
Will need all the help I can get thanks everyone!

Nope, nothing on the ground. Yea i thought it could be my water pump because it sat around in a garage before I bought it. How would it be the power steering?

I know on my 91, the timing belt cover, on the back side of the belt, near the front of the engine, has warped considerably. You can see where the belt has been rubbing it over the years when you take the cover off (I've done my timing belt a couple times now). Other than that, the belt is recommended to be replaced every 90,000 miles and you should do your water pump while you have it torn apart. The noise is difficult to pin point. Put a screwdriver on the valve cover and put your ear on the handle. Works with a broom stick too. You'll hear it if the belt seems to be slapping around. Other than that it kinda sounds more like and exhaust leak or fuel injector, but that's the nature of the video, so don't take any of that to heart. You could pull off the valve cover and top timing belt cover (DONT LOOSEN THE MIDDLE BOLT ON THE MIDDLE COVER< ITS THE TENSIONER!!!!) and MANUALLY turn the engine forward (towards the front bumper, the way it runs naturally, turning it back will put slack in your belt.) with a 19 mm socket. Watch the belt with a flashlight and see if its hitting anything. Look for severe excess slack (believe it or not these things actually have a fair amount of slack in them, even when timed properly) and look for rubbing marks on the belt and the timing covers. Also watch valves, springs and your cams. Check your timing marks line up when they come around (it likely won't look "perfect" but hey, they're pretty big teeth!) I'd also check the tensioner spring (just be sure its not broken) though, it likely wouldn't run if it was damaged. Other than that, it could be the tensioner bearing, or water pump bearing failing. It may also be (unlikely) poor timing or if it's the injectors making the noise, you may just need better fuel.
