Default rust remover/dissolver and rust converter

can somebody give me some information on these products as to how good they work? i have a primed hood and never got it painted now it is rusting. no deterioration but just a layer-like rust on the hood
this is what i read on the product:
converter-turns it to some black substance that is similar to primer and can be sanded or painted
remover-turns it to something i can brush away
they come as pastes and aerosols

ok here is what i've found
you can remove rust from a chrome bumber by dipping a piece of foil in coke then scrubbing and you can pour coke over rusted bolts to help loosen them, but
i don't want to put a piece of foil to my hood. do you mean just to pour it over the whole thing and it should dissolve it?

when do i say okay i think it's done and decide to wash it away?

go to the hardware store and pick up some rust remover. I forget the exact name, Naval Jelly rust remover or something. Its a gel, rub it on the area, let it sit for a while, clean off along with the rust. Read the directions because if you get it on the paint, it will eat that away too.
