Default EMERGENCY, NEED WIRING HELP, STRANDED IN WINTER

I am on a long distance trip from one side of the USA to the other. My drivers-side headlight went out. I went to replace it and the black connector crumbled into nothing. I'm at an auto parts store, and I bought an aftermarket headlight connector. The new connector has a black, blue, and red wire. The wiring to the old connector is three wires of different colors, with stripes.

I can't compare the positioning of the wiring on the passages side and copy it for the drivers side because the black connector has crumbled into dust and I now have 3 striped wires and I need to know which is which.

Can I just start splicing the wires into the new connector until I get the right combination, or will it burn out the bulb? Please help. I've heard others had this problem with the headlight connector disintigrating.

Since you cannot compare the needed wiring of your driver-side connector to your passenger-side connector because they have both crumbled to dust, I would recommend buying a few cheap bulbs and through trial and error figure out the proper wiring connections to make them work. Once you have that figured out, I would then recommend that you buy new connectors and wire them up appropriately.

Also, since the earlier headlight connectors had crumbled to dust (not sure why; old?), I recommend checking ALL connectors for ALL of your vehicle's lights to see if they also need to be replaced and do so, if necessary.

Best wishes,
