This is my Write-Up / Guide on how to pretend to install rear disc brakes on to a 1st Generation 1997 – 2001 Honda CR-V RD1. This conversion applies to all trim levels with & without ABS and with & without RT4WD.

The conversion probably isn’t for your typical CR-V owner. It is more performance oriented for those that are interested in that as well as for the true CR-V enthusiast. Several key points will be found in the attached Guide below. I call it a “Guide”, as in my opinion, it isn’t a true Write-Up and relies on your own knowledge of mechanical things and how to work on them.

There are many options and different routes you can take with this conversion. All of them will NOT be covered in this Guide. If I ever had to do the conversion, this is how I would have done it for myself.

It is REQUIRED that you read the ENTIRE Guide before you even remotely think about touching your vehicle. Below are some pictures of the completed swap. As of the time of this posting, I have about 2,000 theoretical miles on the conversion.


*** It must be noted that some people may want to put an aftermarket brake proportioning valve on their setup to control brake bias. This isn't covered in the Guide, and is your choice to make. ***



Here you can see a complete kit. You can use different bolts and the E-Brake Adapters absolutely aren’t required.





Unlike most swaps, here you can see that there is full pad engagement on the rotor.

LOL @ adding disc brakes in the rear. More weight for minimal gains in braking? No, thanks.

 

So small, need to upgrade them to 17 inch rotors/pads.

 

LOL @ not understanding the benefits of disc vs. drums. You do realize just how heavy the CRV Is to begin with right? So adding things like a turbo must make it slower too right, due to weight and all? Sometimes weight is necessary for gains.

So since you came out of hiding just to post that, let me ask you this in regards your Prelude you have/had: Did you do a rear drum conversion for weight reduction and brake fade while on the race track? Hopefully you gutted the interior and cut all inner door skins, trunk supports, hood webbing, and anything else to drop weight from your race car.

You have odd humor. Those ARE 17" rims... so how would that fit, let alone be logical or feasible. They look correct under stock rims, I should post a picture of the front brakes for comparison.

Let me know, I'm an engineer and might be able to do something with your design drawings from your engineer friend so these can at least be used by people if noone wants to manufacture them for multiple production runs.
