96 accord wagon shifts late 1-2
My accord shifts at really high rpm, ~5k, between first and second gear only. There is no slippage or harsh shifting, just shifts late between 1 and 2. Doesn't happen for the other gears. I'm hoping this doesn't mean a new transmission. Any suggestions?
Check for any stored codes. Under/behind the center of the glove box door there will be a two wire blue connector. Pull it down, jumper it with a wire and turn your ignition to II(ON). Watch the check engine light, and/or D4 light for codes(blinking). Turn ignition off.
Verify the fluid in the trans is within the hash on the trans dipstick, I suspect the fluid is properly filled.
Next I would verify the TPS is functioning properly. Backprobe with a voltmeter, turn the ignition to II(ON) and observe the voltage output change as you open the throttle. It should be a linear change. If it is jerky or there are dead spots the TPS will need to be replaced.
Usually when the TPS on an automatic car dies, or has a bad spot(s) the transmission will not upshift until you are at/near WOT. What's even more frustrating is that the ECM/PCM will not always display a code for TPS even if it is bad.
