bought a 98 accord for 300 needs transmission
i was wondering how hard it is to take out a trans on a 98 accord?? i have the 3.0 vtec v6 with an automatic. the trans is junk it bangs into every gear needs replaced. i founda used transmission with 140k on it for 150 bucks on local craigslist. my question is how hard would it be to swap trans?? i do general auto repair at my job all day mostly exhaust and radiators but we also do other stuff plugs wires water pumps starters fuel pumps ect. i have a pretty decent tool box mostly harbour freight pro line tools pretty much all socket from 6 to 20 long shorts deeps ect breaker bars impact sockets what not i have a cheap electric impact. i belive all im lacking is the engine holding brace that goes onto the fenders to support the motor and jacks and stands and the axle nut socket
so how hard is this job on a scale of 1-10?? any tips or tricks or good how to videos??

If the transmission still shifts, shifts in every gear, and shifts are firm, I would look elsewhere for a problem.
Check the engine mounts are still good. V6 used hydro mounts if the fluid has leaked out, lost its dampening properties or the mount(s) are vacuum controlled and the controls are no longer working. The hard shifts may just be from undampened engine to chassis torque. Fully warm up the engine go for a drive. Park the car with the engine on, open the hood and place the car from R to D4 and D4 to R. If the engine jumps or moves excessively then the mounts are most likely to blame.
Verify the engine is in proper working order. How the transmission functions/shifts is heavily relied upon the operating condition of the engine.
If the shifting is indeed harsh or erratic it may be from the shaft sensors covered in ferrous material. Pull them out and verify they are free of debris.
If they are gummed up the resolution of the signal to the PCM is degraded and the shift will be harsh/erratic.
Same with the shift solenids, verify the screens are free and clear of debris.
And again with the pressure switches, make sure they are free and clear of debris, as well as not leaking. If they are leaking it may require more pressure/rpm to close the switch which would lead to a harder shift.

I just bought a 2000 V6 coupe for $500!
The engine mounts are a common problem on this chassis.
Mine has a 1st-2nd shift issue. Other than that, it shifts fine. Hoping an oil change will resolve that! Glad it still drives though!
Let us know what it turns out to be!

Andy, check for any stored codes. 98-02 cars have P17** & P07** codes that DO NOT illumnate the CEL or D4 lamps. 2nd and 3rd gear pressure switches may go out set a code but not illuminate the lamps. Check said pressure switches for leaks as well, replace if they are.
