Extreme smoking from 07 2.4
Working on 07 element 2.4. Cylinder 1 has had misfire for some time. Did valve lash adjustments and found tight exhaust valves across the board. After completing adjustments still had misfire on cylinder 1. Leak down test confirmed at least 1 burnt valve. After completing valve job and reassembling the vehicle runs and sounds great. ...other than it is blowing so much smoke u can't see the vehicle. Smells like coolant being burned in the cylinder. Block test negative. Cooling pressure test ok. Only gasket I couldn't get in a timely fashion was for the egr block on end of the cylinder head. I used "the right stuff " to help seal it. Is this block a possible culprit? Any help is appreciated?
It wasn't smoking before. I'm not sure how the block would be the culprit. My guess is there was a problem during reassembly. Since you've clearly got coolant in your combustion chambers my only reccomendation would be to pull it apart again and start over.
Did you reuse head studs or head gasket? Did you check the block and head for warpage? Were all the mating surfaces properly cleaned before assembly?

thanks for the reply. after doing several tests(leak down, compression, coolant pressure) i opted to let it run for a while. to my surprise the smoking started to deteriorate to the point i could drive it. after about 20 miles all of the smoke was gone and i was left with a perfectly running E! really not sure how that much coolant could have been dropped in the exhaust. my helper(son) says he has no clue either. he is my primary suspect at this point lol
