'91 Accord cabin fan stopped working
A few weeks ago, my cabin fan started making a humming noise on all speeds, but the speed or temperature was not affected. Just a few nights ago, the fan suddenly became very weak, and would barely push any air, it seemed like the settings between 1-3 were the same, if not just a minimal difference. The last speed, made JUST enough audible noise to tell that it was still working - barely. Now, it no longer will push any air, and I can't hear any noises but that was with the car on, so I could of missed something.
I called an import mechanic, because my usual mechanic I take my Honda to, said they didn't want to mess with it because of the possibility of cracking my dash in the removal, or something similar to that effect. He quoted me $250 for the blower motor, with a metal squirrel cage, which I believe are the two fans on each side of the motor - can someone correct me on this? And then about another $200-250 for labor. I found a blower motor, with the fans on each side oneline for only $55
can someone give me some insight on this? I found a cheap replacement part, If I can save $200 but buying this instead i would rather do that.

It depends on where he sourced the part. Online places don't have overhead and so can undercut even wholesale prices from an auto parts place. A good portion of the shop's revenue comes from the markup on parts, he could be getting his blower motor from an auto parts store (napa, oreillys, ect) or even the dealer. Labor sounds about right.
Blower motor noise is caused by bad brushes in the motor, or debris trapped in the fan blades. It sounds like you have a debris problem in the motor, or possibly a locked motor.
This design is a bit trickier to remove, as the air blend housing sandwiches the motor if it has A/C. If not , the housing simply drops out of the dash after you remove the glove box. technicians will probably charge a lot more to remove this design because it is not simply unbolt and remove, so extra labor will be warranted for this repair. If you have a service manual, you may consider doing this yourself. Otherwise, you might damage parts that you did not intend because you cant figure out how they come apart.
