Default Question about the cable shift linkage.

Ive always had a dream to own a honda powered Toyota MR2. I already have a gsr powered rt4wd CRV with the stock 5 speed trans. I was wondering if I fabbed up a set of motor/trans mounts and got some custom axles made, would the linkage for the crv trans work when headed to the back of the car and not the front?

Pretty sure you mixed "back" and "front" around...

It should work fine as long as a non-binding radius is kept. As long as the cable isn't in a bind, it doesn't care what position it's actuated from. Unless you mean putting the cables on the opposite side of where they currently mount... then that would be an issue. The problem I think you would have is cable length. You may be able to find a company that makes custom length cables.

Sorry. I meant to the back as in from the shifter to the back of the car where the motor and trans are. My concern was that the linkage would pretty much be rotated 180 degrees when rotated from the shifter so im worried the shifting would be the opposite. For example 1st gear would be in the position of reverse on the shifter.

Or would i just be moving the shift linkage back? Point A of the linkage (where it attaches to the trans) would now be attached at the shifter and Point B (where it would normally be on the shifter) would now be back at the new trans location.

quite keen on your project.. theres a hybrid section of hondatech if im not mistaken, do you have build thread??
as for the shifting positions, i think if the cables are long enough to make the 180° they would compensate
the reverse positioning of the transmission...!?! thats why i think most mr2 would have a Kswap on it
since the positioning of that motor is similar to the toyota's longblock swap...

Length of the linkage isnt too much of a concern. As long as the gear positions would still be the same when i rotate the linkage 180. The reason i am considering swapping the motor with the trans is bc the direction of rotation of toyotas motor. K series would be way easier but i already have a fully built and tuned gsr. I feel it really just depends on the linkage in my case. I can make custom mounts and axles and I guess id have to make a custom length linkage as well.
