Default how to check codes on a 95 accord?

good friend has a 4 banger 95 accord with 265k on the clock. its got this weird hot idle issue but no CEL on the dash. is there a way to confirm whether there are any codes being stored?

he's basically in throw parts at it mode which I dont think is a good idea. just trying to get him steering in the right directly.

we cleaned his IACV, put on a new fuel filter (pain in the ***), fixed some vacuum leaks and put on a new(er) oem air intake as his old one was cracked.

its weird. when cold it will run fine. once it warms up and you come to a stop in gear (automatic) it will sorta idle surged and bounce around. put it in park and it idles fine. every now and then it will stall according to him.

honestly it makes me wonder if the fuel pump is starting to go out on him...because when he dropped it off for the fuel filter I let it cool off a bit and when I cracked the fuel line there wasnt a whole lot of pressure. but yeah, we'll rent a fuel pressure tester for this when the time comes.

just tossing this out for ideas.

I agree with tim, it sounds like egr ports need to be cleaned. Check the faq's at the top of the forum.

WIll only throw a code when the EGR isn't indicating the correct position. Does not show flow...which will give a lot of problems like you are describing. As in some cylinders get EGR flow and some don't...allowing unequal flow to the different cylinders=running crappy.

If it has a fluctuating idle, I would look at the FITV. Verify it is clean and adjusted correctly.

Well the egr and passages were all clogged. He cleaned them and the idle got better but not fixed. I will tell him about the fitv any other suggestions
