I was looking for a budget car so I can keep my job, saw this... did some research on Cr-Vs from this period and they're very reliable.

But I feel like this is too much of a good thing to be true. With tax, title and a $200 dealer fee, everything would be $1,589, which at the time i went to look at it was $89 more than I had(I just started the job).

I couldn't test drive the car because of the Random Misfire problem, they wouldn't open the hood. I couldn't even use my OBD-II tool I have on it because they wouldn't let me try to start it up, they wouldn't give me or the sales person the keys.

Outside of the car looks nice, other than a small rust mark near the rear tire, inside looked fine. The dealer is a larger dealer here, but I caught them in a few lies about other vehicles they tried to sell me.

I wont this vehicle, but I don't want to invest too much money into it right away. From reading the forums I know a Random misfire could be anything from a tune up to the a timing belt issue, this having an interference engine...it could probably be worse.. but idk much about cars and I easily scare.

From what they told me, they have to get the car up to 3000 RPMs to start it or something, they also told me it shuts back off for reasons I think the guy was making up on the spot (because it tried to use the second cylinder...). So I would have to tow it...meaning an additional expense.

Minor expenses right now, but again I don't have much money to play with at the moment.

Wouldn't let you open the hood, wouldn't let you hook up an obd2 scanner, 1500 out the door...

Offer them 1k OUT THE DOOR since they want to be mysterious about the crv. ****** salesmen....

Too many questions and not nearly enough answers. I would just walk away. Maybe even run.

If I go back, I'll talk to another salesperson and hopefully they can answer my questions better. The car is $1000, the rest is title and plates fees, and then they tacked on another $200. That other 200 puts me off.

But at the same time you could get a running one off craigslist for like 2k-2500. And I dont trust them at all for not even letting you pop the hood. All signs point to shady business.

if it has misfires and dies....could be a bad valve, which is super common. timing could also be off and at that point who knows how far so it could need an engine. seems shady that they won't let you open the hood or start it. my experience would be to find a different one

There's another way to look at it. A stealer selling a car for 1k? consider it a rolling shell. You can assume the stealer had their mechanics look at it to assess its value. It failed their inspection. I'd buy it and plop in a used b20. If you're not mechanically inclined with tools, time to dedicate, and about $1500 laying around then run. Run far away from this.

Read back the parts that I snipped from your post and then ask yourself if you would recommend that car or dealership to a friend or family member.

If you want a project and have the time, space, tools and extra cash I world say sure, but if you need a car to get to work in order to keep your job I would keep looking.

These cars are usually very reliable but this one already has issues that are unknown and are likely serious otherwise you can bet the dealership would have fixed them by now and charged top dollar for the car.

engine problems is just one of the issues, you'll need to look at the entire crv to ensure its just engine problems or else you'll end up spending more on body work.
