Opinions on the older Kawi ZX7's? 92-93ish
They seem to be going for pretty good prices right now. I might as well suck it up and get one this winter when the prices are down.
Anyone here have one or know someplace I can get some specs? Can they hold their own against the newer 600's, or am I SOL?
Always liked the twin headlight thing that they and the older 900rr's have going on, but I don't think I want to start off on a 900rr. LOL
Just looking for generic horsepower, 1320, weight, some reviews maybe etc.
TIA

straight line acceleration wise it should be able to hold its own on the current (not 03) sub 600cc inline four sportbikes. 1/4 should be somewhere around 10sec @ anywhere around 110 and up. Not terribly familiar w/ the particular bike so i'll leave it at that. Suspension should be plenty for a beginner like yourself. Good luck
that's 10 seconds with a decent rider. LOL I'm sure it'll be a while before I can get a 10 our of it.
I'm honestly looking for a nice looking bike, that wouldnt get embarassed if I did get in a little head to head combat. (I'm always in the mood for a little squeeze as a deterent for would be challangers.)
Ive ridden before, but not regularly, only dirt bikes and a few friends street ones. I'm not that timid though, I feel once I get comfortable behind something, the only way to advance yourself is to scare yourself. This may be my ultimate downfall, but as someone once said "the best view of your soul is from beyond the edge looking back."
That's the last thing I need is a bike that would kill me within a week. I'm thinking a 900rr, or an R1 would be that bike.

Honestly, the zx7 would be capable of killing you. I believe that you develop as a rider the most when you're unafraid of wrecking and push the limit all over the place. That's why I always suggest buying an older (not necessarily tiny) bike and some good, cheap gear. Crash the **** out of yourself, have a good time and then spend the money you have saved on the "real" thing. Then the limits you crossed will be much farther on the more advanced machinery. I would guesstimate that w/ a novice rider w/ decent control would be able to pull off 12's w/o too much trouble. Bikes are just difficult to launch. When there's too much power applied, instead of just spinning the tires it takes you up and over as I'm sure you've seen. Beyond that it's just learning the preload on the clutch for quick shifts. You could call it "powershifting" or "clutchless shifting" but I won't. It's just a faster event and keeps you in the powerband and on the power.
any bike could kill you. It's just a matter of which one will kill you first.
And I work best off of fear. IF it doesn't scare me, then it isn't fun. First time I do a wheelie, if it's too easy and it doesn't scare the bejeebies outta me, then why bother showing off? There's just something about pushing yourself until you get comfortable then taking it to the next edge.

I read that somewhere and thought it summed up the potential nicely

That zx6r would be my pic for best "bang for the buck". Decent suspension advancement, good adjustability, good power and kawi ergos. Only problem is the single headlight, but that only bothers some people. I think its a good f3/f4 match but don't forget the f4i is fuel injected. Plus the f4i's look damn sexy.
JG- go for the zx7, seems like you've got functioning brain sitting on that stump of a neck. Have fun and keep us updated
