Back around 2012 I had replaced the VSS on my 96 Accord LX and yesterday while driving there was a moment where I smelled something fuel-like for a sec and not long after that I noticed that my check engine light was on and the speedometer wasnt working. The odometer was but not the speedo. Not sure if the fuel smell was coincidental or not.

So today I find that the code is P0501 and I cant remember where I bought the last one but this time I thought Id ask...

Has anyone made a purchase for a VSS and can recommend one?

Dorman makes decent aftermarket parts, I'd say go for it.

What does the stealership want for an OEM one?

 

Yeah I went with Dorman, I looked at Rock Auto and they had a Dorman part that was the same as Advance Auto and with the 30% off online coupon Advance had I purchased it which turned out to be cheaper than Rock Auto. No idea on the dealer price, didnt even look.

Here is a side by side of the old to new part I got. The tabs were worn off the shaft completely.

 

Dang, that thing got replaced a couple years ago and already looks like that!

What brand?

 

It was an ebay purchase in 2009, cost around $20 at the time. Didnt have a brand name, came from chandler motor sports is all I can find. Next time I'll see if the pin can be purchased somewhere and replace it vs the whole thing. Hopefully there wont be a next time.
