2009 civic si - rear passenger brake issue
Hey all,
I tried searching for this exact problem but I haven't found it, figure I will repost, and if this is a double up please just let me know.
Issue is simple, my rear passenger brake is the only one wearing down. I changed my rears in the summer because my rear passenger side was completely shot, drivers side was not. Didn't think too much of it, as it was missing a shim and just summed it up to that.
However, I got all the parts in it, new brakes and rotors and my rear passenger side brake smells red hot, none of my other brakes smell at all, and this is just from driving regularly, I am not talking spirited driving.
Its a 2009 honda civic si, nothing special and for whatever reason this brake is giving me issues, if anyone has ideas on what to do, please let me know.
Cheers

Did you replace the rear pads or did you also put on new or rebuilt calipers? I'm not familiar with a 2009 Civic brakes, but if they have sliding pins, are they sliding OK, and did you regrease them?
I would start with jacking up the rear of the car, and then trying to spin each rear wheel with the emergency brake on and then off, and see if each rear wheel spins after you release the emergency brake. If one wheel does not spin with the emergency brake released, then I would think that you would then need to watch and see if the emergency brake cable seems to be moving OK, or maybe the caliper is bad. Good luck and I hope you figure it out!! - Jim

Thanks, I am getting it on a lift soon to change the transmission fluid so I will check the ebrake situation, didn't seem like an issue but anything is possible now.
Just changed the brake and rotor so maybe it just needs some more grease to make it happy. The car came from rough winters in Edmonton so maybe it just needs some more TLC.

Sticky e-brake cable? New or reman calipers, I never use reman brake stuff, the pistons never fit correctly and will **** in the bore causing them to stick. Buy new oem stuff and you will have fewer issues. Oh, also check the prop valve, I have had a few over the years that failed prematurely probably due to not flushing fluid often enough. Good luck!
