Recently bought a fairly clean 94 del sol si automatic for very cheap with a broken axle. Replaced it, checked the fluid, and took it for a drive. Trans seems to work well, but reverse just grinds when i try to put it in. I am not particularly well versed in automatic transmissions, is there something simple i should check before throwing this trans in the dumpster? thanks.

 

Check proper linkage first

Thats the only thing that comes to mind, the reverse selector might not be in position completely.
