Default My new 240Z

Just got my '72 240Z four hours ago. I had it dropped off at a performance shop in North Bay, ca. for them to do their magic. Except a little bit of rust under the doors, there is virtually no rust anywhere else. The original owner pulled the head off to rebuild it and never get around doing so because he passed away. His son gave away Three other 240Z and two 280Z to the junk yards and this is the only survivor. Without further due, here are a few pics which I snapped the moment it arrived to the shop. The ones with the Z covered in thick layer of dust is when it was first dug out from the garage after 31 yrs of hibernation.

Yep, my '97 Type R will be jealous of the new addition as the 240Z will become my new DD.

I'm in the process of desiding what size tires to go with. Low profile or keep it stock spec.

At this point, it will be all stock except the wheels. But, knowing myself, future build will be RB25det

^ Since you are from Chico, you may recognize the L28ET swap in the last pic. I picked it up in Chico. Man...That was a long *** drive from Windsor.

OK, while you guys were snoring, I was busy collecting parts for the 240z. Here are a few parts that I purchased and there are a couple more on the way which I'll update when I get them in. I was able to get my hands on a Datsun 280ZX Turbo swap and an ECU piggyback HKS system which I cannot wait to see how it perform with the L28ET swap.

Note: I purchase some used parts where it count just to save money. Of course, some parts you can no longer be purchased new.

WOO! Welcome to the "Datsun Z band wagon" LOL!.
I love your caz specially the two tone color. I bet the yellow body is original paint and color. Judging from the overall look of it, your Z is a turn key driver. Sweet.

No kidding . I'm debating whether to stay with the T3 or go T3/T4 route. If I stay with T3, I will go 3.9 on final drive to take advantage of the quick spooling. If I go with the bigger T3/T4, I'll stay with the current 3.5 just in case I run out of gears

It is a turn key, only problem is that it failed the visual smog inspection. Egr is not working properly. Passed emissions though. And the original color is actually orange. I'm debating if i should repaint it to the original orange or go white. Because of smog, i don't get to do any fun swaps. I need to buy property up in almanor and register my cars there lol. I'm fairly new to the s30 chassis, so my progress will be slow going.

Congrats on the buy! I wish you had all 4 oem wire wheels, I love those things. Can't wait to see how this progresses. Definitely glad to read your going w/ a le28t vs todays popular swaps.

Do it. I think it is a double wins: Property for investment and a place to register your Z to have smog exempt.

I do have all four. The fourth wheel is in storage because the tire has a hole in it
My first thought was to do RB25 and swing back into racing. But, I don't think that's going to happen. So, the most logical choice is stay L-series and go turbo just to satisfy my crave.

My plan is to use the wire wheels for classic meets and the Rays/Volk for JDM meets. Not really want to part with them.

Dropped off a truck load of parts yesterday at the shop. Sorry for no pics as I forgot to bring the camera. They had the Z on the lift and the old engine is out. Next, the whole rear end will be out to make room for the new upgrade R200 differential and disc brakes.

We did a walk around underneath the car and there was not a single rust spot that I could find That was the first time I got a chance to look underneath the Z. Man, I'm so happy.

Nope, those are too much work. This R200 came from 1980 280zx with open diff. Even this diff pretty much bolt right on, I still have to source different year z mounting brackets and half shafts. Why bother you ask. Because this diff is stronger and it allows the the use of a five speed tranny.

Yea, for close to one grand. I couldn't justified the need for one as I no longer doing any more racing. Although, I'll be putting the Z through some autoxing this coming May at the Sonoma Race Way. It's a way to let it stretch it's legs and to see how far I can push it.
