intermittent tachometer
hey guys, swapped a DX cluster into my STD civic hatch, about a month ago (when it started freezing) my tach started to work intermittently. I.E. when i start the car, 2 of 5 times, the tach doesnt work. if i give the cluster cover a good ol` slap, it bounces to the RPM the engine is running at and works just fine.
any tips on how to fix it? after a lot of looking, the only replacements im seeing are from the junkyard (not guaranteed to work) or an 8000 or 9000 RPM gauge from OMNI at 230$. anyone who has repaired tachs with some tips would be great. dont know much of how theyre built, and HATE letting others work on my car. (especially if i have to pay them for it lol)

already saw that thread before posting. i installed an Equus 8000RPM 2-3/8" tachometer from o'reilly auto because it had searched unsuccessfully for a working DX or SI cluster with tach. about a month after installing the Equus, i found a DX cluster at the local picknpull and installed it that day.
it worked just fine, but i noticed below 3000 it is about 200 rpm below the Equus, and above 3000 its about 225-250 rpm above the Equus. both worked and functioned 100% of the time.
about 3-4 weeks ago once the weather started staying consistently in the low 30's, the Honda tach started sticking at 0 RPM. i give the cluster cover a slap and it would be fine for a few days. now, it NEVER works without hitting the dash first. the Equus is still functioning perfectly, telling me its the cluster tach.
so im just trying to find out how hard it would be to repair because paying someone to do it can be spendy, i dont like letting people work on my cars, and i have found absolutely 0 OE replacements for the DX cluster.

Things shrink in the cold. Expand in the heat. It will be a guessing game. I say goto the junk yard ( don't steal but rather swap out your old rpm gauge) repeatedly until you get a good one.
