'96 Accord Manual Transmission Snapped /Fails to Pull
Thank you for the opportunity to join the group. Replaced both CV shafts. Drove car after drivers side replaced, still had the clicking noise on passenger side. Replaced the passenger side torqued the shaft nut to spec, felt the shaft rotate some. I did not give much thought to it. Set it down, started to move it, heard a snap sound. Clutched it shifts into all gears, but it will not pull in any gear or reverse. I am guessing spider gear was the snap. Please let me know if that sounds right. I would also like to know if anyone can enlighten me as to what transmissions with interchange. If you are close to NC area , I will probably need one, let me know. Thanks in advance!
Verify the axles are fully seated, if not they will not allow power transfer and may click as the splines rub but do not engage.
90-97 Accord F22 transmissions will interchange.
92-96 Prelude transmissions as well.
However, Wagon, Prelude, and 90-93 Accords have different gear ratios. 94-97 Coupe/Sedan will have the same gear ratios.

Thank you for the fast reply. Both axles are fully engaged. I do not fell the axle should have rotated when torquing the nut with one wheel on the ground. I know I should have had both on the ground before putting that much torque on the axle (180 FP). Passenger side was the side up being torqued. The drivers side was on the ground. I got at least one full rotation on the axle with it in the transmission. I really did not think that should have happened.
Even if the trans was in gear, that amount of torque applied can turn over the engine.
You want that clamp load on the wheel bearing as that is what keeps it properly aligned and together. Otherwise it will fail early if you drive it without the proper
torque.

I assume it turned the engine over, but it could not rotate the driver tire. Do you think the spider gear snapped? Something broke, I am guessing the tranny is in need of repair or replacement.
It is possible, but I would suspect the engine would have rotated before anything broke. Unless the engine was mechanically locked somehow, or if you jerked on the nut while tightening and caused a shock load. But even then I could only see maybe chipping/breaking a tooth. Trans should be able to handle some torque input from the output. Unless you had it in 5th gear and were jumping up and down on the wrench like a crazed baboon.
