I replaced my tailgate lock/latch assy due to the tell tail sticking of the old worn latch. But now the electric lock won't work properly.

When I push the **** to lock it the **** just pops back up. The rest of the doors will be lock but not the tailgate. If I hold it down long enough, resisting the motor trying to unlock it, it will stay locked. The same works in reverse. I have to hold the **** up a couple seconds for it to stay unlocked. It's just this new lock that's acting up. All the others are responding properly when I operate the tail gate lock. And locking the car from one of the other doors won't get the tail gate to lock. I also tried disconnecting the battery for a while.

I don't have keyless entry if that matters.

 

Is there a reset procedure after replacing a lock/latch assy? It seems it's just the motor that is causing the problem. It wants to resist either direction of the manual side of the lock (**** rod). With the lock motor disconnected, everything works fine except I can't lock and unlock the rest of the car from the rear lock.
