So a month ago my 2000 honda civic overheated really bad, after replacing the second hose coming out of the radiator the overheating has stopped, except maybe being on a slope too long or if the coolant is low. Now just a few days ago when i stop my car it begins to shake, similar to the shake it does when it overheated a month ago. Any suggestions on what i should look at? I have a 2hr trip in a week and a half and need my car to be on it.

When you overheated your motor "really bad", you most likely caused damage that wouldn't be fixed by just replacing a coolant hose. What's more, the fact that the engine continues to overheat should have told you there is still a problem. On top of that, your coolant shouldn't get "low". It's a sealed system. If it's getting low, then that means the system is no longer sealed, and something is damaged. Unless there's a leak you haven't noticed, you're burning it, which means your head gasket is damaged, which is extremely common when you overheat an engine "really bad". Your engine "shaking bad" is it's way of telling you to stop abusing it and fix it properly. Unless you're particularly handy with tools and have a good bit of free time, you might want to start looking for a rental car for that trip.

If you want to properly tackle this problem, go to your local parts store, buy/borrow/rent a block testing kit, and follow the instructions on the package to confirm the blown head gasket, and we can work from there.

 

Theres no leak i check all the time. My dad is very handy with cars so he's going to take a look at it and i have a mechanic friend so ill be asking him as well.thanks for the insight.

 

When you open the oil cap is there a milky like substance on the bottom of it? Is the oil being mixed with coolant? Very thin, runny, milky oil?

If you over heated, all of this should be happening. Time to replace the head gasket.

 

Not usually the case with Civic engines. A more telling sign is radiator coolant loss and overfill in the reservoir. Car shaking is most likely from compression loss due to breeched gasket between one or more cylinders.
