Icon2 Gold Top in mine?

Ok, more research.....how'bout this one.

I've found a:
(JDM GOLD TOP B20A 1986–1987) 160 hp (119 kW) @ 6300 rpm & 137 lb.ft (186 N·m) @ 4000 rpm, using PH3 ECU w/transmission.

Of course mine has a pr-4 ecu. Will this engine go in my Integra without any drastic mods?

I don't have a clue.

Thanks!

That engine shares nothing with any of the more "modern" B-series engine, it was used in the early Prelude and was basically a black sheep engine. Save yourself a ton of hassle and frustration don't give this another ounce of thought.

You guys know a lot more than me, but even in my '90? Mine's not too modern.

....but for curiosity, black sheep?

So, my only choice is a later b20b...pretty much the same hp as mine, with a bit more torque. Cheap, but I'd have no choice but to take it apart and start all over, not so cheap then.

Ok, so my 25 year old engine is a modern B series engine. It's the only one I know anything about.
The gold top is not.

I'm starting to gather, I need to find an obd-0 or obd-1 B20 and build it the way I want for my purpose.

All you do is buy a newer b20, swap your intake manifold, exhaust manifold, distributor, wireharness, extend the water temp sensor plug from the back of the block to the water neck, put on your other accessories (alt ps pump ac pump) swap the crank pulley over so you can use your accessories (one pulley belt is different on the b20 pulley) and it drops right in.

Literally plug and play.

This is very good info and the type that really helps. I am interested in a bit more hp than I have now. 160, 180, and I'd prefer to get it without a turbo.

I've done this with older carb engines, but these Honda engines are quite beyond my experience. It seems more difficult then I would have imagined.

My engine at 163k miles is in pretty good shape and should last for some time, however the prices for jdm engines aren't going to do anything but go up and up. So I have no problem of getting the correct block now and taking my time to build it for what I want. I just don't really know exactly what will work on these engines and what won't.

A carb engine, you get an upgraded crank, maybe stroker and balanced, lighter stronger connecting rods, stronger valve springs, maybe a mild cam or bigger valves. Then its just intake and exhaust.

That's expensive, so I was hoping to find the correct engine. I've looked at gsr and type r engines that are quite pricy at 3500 to 4000 with the lsd trans. That would do the trick, but I'm not comfortable spending that kind of money on an engine that I don't know how it's been treated. You could get one that someone raced all the time, or one that wasn't taken care of.

Ok, so it seems a b20 for 400 to 7oo and then build it. Then the only question left is, am I going to spend $5000 or more either way? If that's the case, I guess I'd rather spend it on an engine I build myself.

It wasn't hard to triple the hp in air-cooled VWs, this engine is a very different story.
