So I just finished rebuilding the motor on my 01 gsr, got it all plugged together and started it up. It would start up and run rough and the CEL would blink as it sputered, so I plugged in the scanner tool and it fired up no problem.

I left it in so i could catch the code when it came back, but it never did. So parked it in the garage and left her there for a couple of weeks (working out of town).

fast forward to today, fired it up and let it warm up (scanner unplugged) was going to the store and it started stalling out. I had to rev it to keep it alive till i got home. plug in the scanner tool and it runs smooth no stalls no CEL nothing.

Any help would be great.

things done to the motor:

eagle rods, and 10.5:1 pistons, everything else stock GSR bored to 82mm.

New items:
alternator
knock sensor
valve guides
all seals, orings and gaskets
cap and rotor
spark plugs and wires

Some other info:

Battery voltage 13.5
oil pressure 15 idle, 80 after 4000 rpms
fuel pressure maxs at 42 psi

 

What ecu? Bad ground on the engine? Maybe at the thermostat housing?

 

stock ECU and Holy **** that was it......F#@king awesome....so simple now i feel like an idiot.

Awesome! I have heard of people smoking their computer with a bad ecu ground. It grounds back through the USB port somehow.

 

So it was a bad ECU or was it not grounded good?

 

It was a loose ground.
