Default Tanabe - Racing Medalion vs. Hyper Madalion cat-back for EG hybrid

I decided that I am going to get a full cat-back and thinking about going with Tanabe. I've read up on their quality and it seems to be top notch.

Besides about $40 / name what is the difference between the two styles of tanabe cat-backs?

I am also a little confused about ordering the exhaust.
Even though I will be running a GSR motor would I still order the cat for the EG civic (because of the piping), right?? Would the exhaust system mount to a cat. converter or test pipe? I really don't want to go with a test pipe since I hear that will be loud as $hit and I don't need straight piping all the way through.

I'm just really confused because it seems like you can only mix and match certain parts.....

Any help will be highly appreciated!

Can someone post pics of the Tanabe exhausts? The web site for tanabe sucks a$$!!! I couldn't find any pics on it at all of the exhausts

I know I've been posting a lot about exhausts lately. It's just getting close to that time and I want to know exactly what I am getting......

RM will be louder than Hyper.

Hyper will look way better. IMO

Go Hyper. Loud Hondas are annoying.

I have a hyper, no pics though sorry. I like it alot because its semi-stock sounding until you really get on it. That and I don't like the look of the coffee can cat-backs. Just my .02 but pick the one you like better, its going on your car.

Hyper medalion is a lot buzzier.

I have the racing medalion and my friend (99 gsr) has the hyper medalion.

For sound, I pick the racing medalion. For looks go hyper.

My hyper isn't buzzy at all(deep and smooth actually), maybe there's something wrong/defective in his?

The sound gets buzzier if you take the cat out. I got a test pipe on my civic with a gsr swap and man, that thing is loud (not in a good way) Sounds like a bee is coming toward you. It only does this between 2000-3000 RMP. After that its deep as hell... so dont take the cat out. IMO..

I have the Super Hyper Medallion... I'm very pleased with it. Excellent tone, not buzzy or loud and annoying. It's very understated at idle and mid-throttle, but nice and throaty when you step on it. I cut the end off of mine with a die grinder cause it stuck out way too far. I also tweaked the hangers just a little bit to make it tuck into the little oval cut on the bumper.

I'll see if I can get a sound clip of how it sounds on my D16Z6 in a little bit here. Gotta dig out the recorder.

that looks nice, but if I had it on my Integra I would paint the canister black and leave the tip shiny. I don't like seeing big flat mirrors under the rear bumpers of cars.

Cuz it's JDM, y0! Haven't you heard?

Nah, it's just "less pronounced" i.e. no bling-bling

I have the medalion on my EK. When I was using it w/my D16 motor, it wasn't loud at all.

When I swapped to B18, it got about twice as loud. I don't like it much anymore... but I'm gonna give the silencer a try first.

But seriously, I think it's an awesome exhaust system!! If it was just a bit quieter!!

Maybe that's why mine isn't that loud. Hmm.

Well I don't think it's an obsession, just more of a preference on showy/flashy parts. When I got my Apex'i RS exhaust, I hated the polished canister. I shortly afterwards painted the canister high temp. flat black, and neatly masked off the tip. Honestly, it wasn't meant to be a cosmetic upgrade, but now from time to time people comment on how nice it looks. I'm happier with it, due to the less showy non-mirrored muffler in the back of my car.

Enough explination...I know it seems like a fad, but I feel my black muffler helps set me aside from the local ricers with racing stripes.

I have a racing medallion on mine, it's way too loud for long trips, like on the highway, but while you hammer on it and sounds pretty mean, I had my silencer in and worked real well, however it rattled and sounded like ****, so I took it out. I would get a hyper if you want a tanabe exhaust

I think I can find one.. I'll post it on here later if I can get it.

Anyways, I have the RM for my ITR engine. It has a great tone at low rpms IMO. But when you hit the throttle harder, it really opens up. All straight through canister style exhausts are like that though...

I love the power, and it has great throttle response. The piping isn't as small as other manufacturers..

I want to find a different muffler though.. it's too loud for my taste. It makes me feel like my engine is wound up when I'm at mid-high rpms.
