2001 Accord 2.3 Cel 12 and 71
so my girlfriends moms car is a 2001 Honda Accord 2.3 VTEC
she reported that it sounded rough so I rode over to check it out
it was skipping really bad I disconnected each plug wire one by one to confirm they were working and the engine did get a more noticeable miss with each plug wire
removed so all 4 are working
I tripped the jumper and it shows a CEL 12 (EGR)and a CEL 71(cylinder 1 misfire)
Im going to have to remove the egr and clean it all the writeups and how tos I find are for a V6
would just putting a brand new EGR valve on it be easier than trying to clean it?
or are there other ports that would also need cleaning
any advice greatly appreciated

You can unplug the connector for the egr valve and if it runs better when it throws the code then the issue should be egr related. Normally you want to clean the runner ports as well as the valve itself.
Problem solved
I removed the egr valve and it was stuck open
cleaned the carbon off and it popped closed
put it back on and runs like a charm
cleared codes
