n00b at Drag racing...how to do burnouts, playing with tire pressures..etc.
There will be an Acura War next Sat at E-Town. I think about going to see how good/bad my new Teg runs. However, I only had one event of drag racing ever, and on my very first run of that time, I glazed my clutch and had some pretty bad experiences.
Here are some questions:
I have a two sets of tires. One is Kumho V700 R-Compound that's used for autox/circuit duties on 16" wheels. The other is my street setup, Dunlop SP5000 on 15".
Is it possible to drag race with R-compounds? What Psi range should I play with?
And how do I do burnouts at the burnout box in a teg?, I don't want to pass it again doing nothing.....
Should I feather the clutch or drop it? What RPM range?

run ur R compounds, run 20psi.
completely stop ebrake up, let it rip. not for to long.
then do another quick rip, to clear any **** in the tires.
stage 1 light and let your opponent stage 1, then ur ready.
try these
4000 rpms drop the clutch
6000 rpms feather the clutch
see what u can do with doing each of these.

What is "let it rip"
So I have the Ebake all the way up. I'm in first gear..then what rpm should I go up to?

Oh man! That was embarrasing! I don't get it, I feather it last time at 4000rpm...just like any autox runs I had. Is the drag strip a much different composition than everyday parking lots?
Well, I am doing it again just for the hell of it to see if this new teg I picked up can do.
After a season of lapping and autox, those Kumhos on 16" rotas are pretty much dead. They need to be changed out anyway.
The SP5000, I am getting them in next week, so they will be too new to use I guess.
I can rip off the old S03 from the other one...

I alway thought R-Compounds are as good as slicks. Since they don't have much of threads. I guess I can't beat my Kumho's to death then...

Yeah,it is,alot stickier, most besides all the extra sticky rubber on it,they spray it with VHT traction compound..i dont think the dunlops will be too new esp after the drive to the track but with whatever tire you decide to use,i'd stay out of the burn out box, maybe to a little dry burnout, thats about it,i would concentrate more on cutting a good light and hitting all your shift points,if you want to use the burnout box,get slicks

what im figuring, the R-Compounds may be sticker but theyre probably heavier since thier 16s,so whatever advantaged of them being stickier is negated by thier extra wieght...i guess.
ps..u could make your 1st pass on the dunlops then change em up for the next pass...to see if my theory is correct

yeah, I guess I'll do that. But let see if I can find time to remove my other set of S03 on 15's first.

If you can win the bracket $$$ for me for sho, then I'll let you pilot. I don't think RSXs would be a problem to you....

Heh..you are the silver teg with the you know what engine. Met you long time ago on a R-speed meet.
It's an Acura War...promoted by Acura-CL, Acura-TL and RSX forums. No **** they don't want us mod tegs to run. lol
Look at ETown's homepage, scroll down to see the events, it's there on the homepage.

the sidewalls on drag slicks are different from auto-x/road race slicks, as in they are much softer. the stiff sidewall of a road race slick isnt conducive to drag launches
