99 civic ex, auto, 197k miles...female friend drove the car till it over heated car shut off, she waited till it cooled, turned on drove home...I came, seen Heater hose popped...changed that... Put everything back together...first time I turned it over it turned on went to 500rpm then died, didn't want to start after that...when I kept trying it wanted to turn on but didn't, then now clicks once and pretty hard...

Checked starter they said it's fine
Put different good battery..didn't work...
Fresh oil just in case nothing


What else can it be???

 

can you turn the motor by hand?

 

Got to dark to try, in a sketchy neighborhood, gonna try tomorrow... How do you do it, try turn crankshaft pulley and see if it turns right? If it doesn't it's locked up?

 

17mm crank bolt, turn with socket wrench

 

Just to add: remove spark plugs (optional, but easier to turn)
Turn in counter-clockwise direction (firewall towards radiator)

If you opt to remove spark plugs check them for wetness: coolant and/or oil
