GSR girdle on B20, do 1 & 5 caps go too?
I'm building a B20V for my autoX/track car that will see sustained high rpm, and I've got a spare GSR block just sitting around (and a baffled GSR pan on the car currently). I plan on doing the girdle and having the mains line-honed, but should I swap the 1 and 5 main caps as well? Also, if there's anything I need to know for this let me know, thanks.
I don't think it really matters since its getting line honed anyways, but just for simplicity sake, I'd keep the original 1 and 5 caps with the block. Maybe some actual machinists will chime in and say for sure...
I've done it in the past with just 2,3,4. Machinist always frown upon mixing main/rod/can caps.
Its not required when adding the girdle. The windage tray, oil pick up, and pan are.

The best solution is to keep the original main caps with the block and modify the middle of the GSR girdle to fit the LS main caps... however, you may find it equally as cheap to simply purchase an aftermarket billet girdle that fits without modification.
I am a bit nervous about swapping caps, and the line bore may make bearing choices a bit more difficult.
What would need to be machined on the main caps to fit the girdle? I can't imagine that being much more, if any, than line boring...the only shop I've found local who can quoted me about 250 to do so.
I would like to retain my GSR pan since it's a baffled unit, so I assume using the girdle, pickup and windage tray will allow for this?

Keep the main caps 1and 5 from your engine and as long as the girlde donor engine lived a normal life it will be OK. Machine shops that usually do not work on Honda expect a large variation when switching main caps. You would be surprised how close the clearances are.
You could also get the bearing code stamp off of the girdle donar block , if avail. And compare to your block
