Effective Jan 1, 2016, looks like many of the licensee's that required a physical, will no longer need one to renew in the future.

I am assuming the FWD guys get lumped into the "ET" categories (level 6 or 7 red section on the webpage above)? My license is in SuperStock (level 4) so I couldn't tell you.
Before, they usually said "7.50-9.99 et OR 135+ mph"...

So were physicals show stoppers from people actually going and getting their car legal? As soon as my car started going faster than 135 and faster than 10.0 I got the paperwork, got a quick 30 minute physical, did my 5 or 6 passes and sent my paperwork in. Done and Done
Even if they don't require a physical for a license you will still have a bunch of people without them. I don't know what "red tape" was stopping people.
The real problem with licensing is the fact that people's cars can't meet the proper safety requirements. Junk home made cages with booger welds, 6 point cages in 8 and 9 second cars, dudes wanting to wear jeans, no NHRA certed cages, no scatter shields, no proper SFI approved gear. I have seen so many cars that wouldn't come close to passing any real inspections at real tracks. So unless the relax their rules on safety, you won't see much of an increase in people getting licenses.
That is my opinion, however when I need to renew my license next year, this is one less thing I need to worry about LOL.

I never got one in the past because up until this past summer, there wasn't an event for the last 10 years before that I would attend that enforced it so it simply wasn't worth the money and the 3 hour one way drive to a test n tune where I could get one.
