Hi all,

I'm interested in making the rear doors in my 2000 Honda civic open wider.

Reason for this is because I use this car for hauling stuff around. The ~60 degree opening of the doors is too restrictive.

I would love info on a simple mod that would make my car doors open up to a 90 degree or higher angle.

And by simple, I mean cheap, fast and simple -- like an after-market hinge, simple removal of hinge pin or screw... stuff like that. I'm not interested in radical solutions like suicide/lambo doors.

I searched around on google for an hour, and came up empty. Any pointers you can offer are greatly appreciated.

You will not have both of those qualities in the same sentence. If you understood the mechanism that limits door travel, or looked at it for a minute you would see the part you would need to have custom made and the sheetmetal that needed to be altered.

 

Remove the door check strap entirely?

 

there is a metal "bar" you can see connected to the hinge that you can see when you open the door.
Remove that.

done.

Stand by till you smash it into the panel in front of it...

 

You could also remove the interior door panel. That will give you some room.
