Hello, I have an Srs light on. I need suggestions on what to do. Should I take to dealer, repair, reset or fix my self

P.S. My driver side airbag has popped out but no accident.

 

Hey Earl That's exactly what happen this morning to my car 2002 ACCORD V6 leather seats "no accident" just driver side airbag deployed for no reason. My car was taken to the dealer two years ago for air bag recall but they told me I did not have the defective type installed once checked. I did a little digging around and found "I Car 2002 Model Air Bag Parts replacement recommendation" (you can google) It recommends "SRS UNIT, WIRING, DEPLOYED AIRBAG UNIT AND any other related components" to be safe since I do not know what is defective or what caused it I will be replacing airbag unit, cable reel assembly and SRS unit. Wiring is highly unlikely in this case. All parts cost around $850.00 without seat cover but I believe a good seamstress can restitched it. If dealer does it may be around or above $2000.00 that's a guess estimate. But I will still like to know how you handled it Thanks.

 

Doubt your Accord has an EDR, pretty sure they only have accelerometers. In the case of a side/curtain airbag deploying, if the car hit a large enough pothole or debris this could cause the airbag(s) to deploy.

 

Mad Mike Thanks for the reply I have hit potholes and bump into items in the past which i guess if the air bags would of deployed any of them that would of been a cause for deployment but car was just put into drive from backing out of my driveway no pot holes or debris. Kind of hard to believe but electronics and sensors do fail or cause intermittent or erratic behavior. I will just replace items and be done with it for what ever reason it deployed. I'll take the easy out.

 

Might want to bring it to your local Honda dealer and have the regional manager have a look at it. There have been some issues with airbags, other than the primaries, IIRC certain Odysseys had side curtain airbag deployment for no reason. If you are not getting any satisfaction, don't forget to 'mention' that your ear is still ringing and your arm still hurts a bit from the deployment
