I'm looking for new tires for my 15" ITR rims (Factory USDM ITR). Any good suggestions. I wanted the Dunlop Direzza ZII star spec 195 55 15, but I'm having a hard time finding this tire locally. It seems the main warehouse is out of them. Any other good tires you guys suggest? I'm in the $150 tops per tire range. But I want the most bang for my buck. She sits a lot so tire usage is not key essential.

RE71R's if you're going to track it.
Z2 starspecs if you're not going to track it but you want a high performance tire.
G force sport comp2 if you're not going to track it and you you want about as much grip as the stock tires, but with long life.
All are summer tires.

RE-71R... :thumb:
Having gone from RE-11 to these, all I can say is wow! The level of grip is easily that of a Toyo R888, just not as heat tolerable. Turn in response is better than any tire I can think of, almost in a bad way. My alignment remaining constant, I am now begging for more caster because of how twitchy the car feels which can be a little unnerving at high speed.
The only and I mean only complaint I have, is being directional. I got around 25,000 miles out of my RE-11's being able to cross rotate, and sold the tires on wheels still about 1/32nd from touching the wear bars. Easily another 5,000 miles in dry weather. The RE-71R however if I had to guess, 20,000 miles I can imagine being on the belts on the right side. (more left turns on average)

To the OP:
205/50/15 is fine also. A little smaller in height, but wider than a 195/55/15.

Thanks guys, would you suggest wider tires then? I'm more concerned with cornering, not so much "drag racing". And yes, this will be for a weekend warrior who sees about 3K miles annually.

205/50/15 works fine for stock wheels. Don't buy RE71R's unless you need the grip for a track. They wear ridiculously fast.
For street use, I would suggest the Z2 SS...since they are the longest lasting extreme performance tires I can think of. I doubt you'll be able to tell the difference in grip levels unless you track it.
Unless you do the sensible thing and buy something that isn't extreme performance if you're just wasting it on the street.

Decided to bring this back from the dead since it's been almost a year and wanted some input from the community. Any suggestions for wheels on stock ITR 15" wheels? CaR will mostly be used for street and weekend canyon carving runs. I want to stay under/right around $100 per tire so I'm currently considering the following:
BF Goodrich g-Force Sport Comp-2
Dunlop Direzza ZII Star Spec
I also followed the ITRCA thread mentioned above but haven't come to a conclusion for my needs....trying to stay within budget with good tire life...any thoughts or suggestions?

I had the same dilemma last summer. Z2 starspecs are almost $100/tire more in Canada where I am ($130 vs $220?), so I went with the 195/55r15 sport comp 2s and I don't regret my decision one bit. Great tire for the street! Very happy with them. I would like to try out a set of Z2 star specs on my next tire/wheel combo. Also rains where I am on west coast, this summer was quite wet compared to last summer, and I felt they were a better choice in tread for the rain
Looks like they are $40/tire USD difference for you too on TireRack. I Would do BFGs on stock ITR rims and get some Kosei K1s or similar with 205 Z2s

Get the Dunlop Direzza Z2's in the 195/55/15 if you are using the OE wheel and want OE-like RE010 performance, period.
The BFG is ok, but a better tire like the Dunlop suits the car better.

Out of the 195/55/15 choices, the Dunlop is head and shoulders above the rest. Please stop spreading mis-information.
I think I will get the Sport Comp 2s for my stock wheels just because it's right under my budget and I'll save around $40/tire over the RE-71R or Direzza that has been mentioned. Thanks for the feedback, much appreciated all.

I spoke to someone over on TireRack via chat earlier and they said that 205/50R15s would fit?
Yes, they absolutely will fit. Don't listen to the ignoramus' that say 195 is the limit on a 6" wide wheel.
You won't notice much of a difference in feel with the model tires you're considering as they all have really stiff sidewalls.

you will be happy with them. The two tires you suggested are also in different classes. The bfgs super sport would rival the Dunlop direzza dz102s while the z2 ss would rival bfg re71r
Of course a 205 will work. But it's a street tire and its going to have softer sidewalls that are pinched in (due to a narrow wheel). You're adding weight and losing feel with a wider tire only for a marginal gain (if that) in cornering. Certain tires with really stiff sidewalls (like the old 215 Azenis) worked ok on a narrower wheel as do R-comps that have incredibly reinforced sidewalls.
And tread compound still rules the day. A sticky 195/55/15 will *always* be better than a less sticky 205/50/15, period.
