hands get sweaty and wheel gets slippery. I need gloves that are not too thick so that I can still feel the wheel good, but I want them to have really good grip. fire proof is not necessary but would be a bonus. what are you guys using and how do you like them? post pics if possible.

First of all if you are ROAD RACING then you are required to have fireproof gloves.
If you are talking about something other than ROAD RACING please clarify.
I have a pair of OMP Professionals in red:

I have a set of the best gloves from Racer Wholesale. The ones made out of rat hide. Well, okay, they are kangaroos, but they're just overgrown rats. The gloves fit nicely, and feel very comfortable, but they started to develop a hole after about a year.
This time I went with the Simpson talon grip. They feel even better, and hopefully they will outlast my last pair.

I have a pair of sparcos. The nomex is coming unraveled on one finger
I don't think I'm going to replace them with another set of sparcos. Simpson maybe. Like helmets, I'd suggest buying a set locally so you can try them on.

If you are doing an HPDE or driving school, then might I suggest batting gloves...you can't get any better grip than leather batting gloves. Only bad thing is that the batting gloves don't last that long...I'm on my fifth set after about 1.5 years of autocrossing/daily driving with them....
If you are actually racing wheel to wheel then Nomex gloves are a requirement....

I have some realtively cheap gforce gloves, but they are nomex. I have only been running HPDEs - but having recently seen a very bad fire when a production vehicle was hit by another, I'm soon to be investing in a good driver suit also.. sure I'll look like a poser, but I'll feel a little safer.

these $15 red specials always helped me on track...

LOL......
Golfing gloves work great. Skin tight fit that gives you the death grip on the steering wheel.
i usually just coat my hands with rubber cement.
after it dries, it's pretty grippy and doesn't damage your hands.
plus it's fun to peal the glue off later.

I'm a fan of my batting gloves for autocrossing and when I'd hop into the Acura and freeze my hands on the vinyl steering wheel in the cold winter days. One thing to remember is... regardless of what kind of gloves you have, they've gotta be bright and visible for HPDE in the off-chance you need to give someone a pointby.

Only know this 'cause of a discussion I had while working a corner at the Runoffs, and I looked it up.

(my gloves have leather and nomex)
Okay - looking at the pictures Drew posted above... why do all the most expensive gloves have leather across the back near the nuckles?
BTW: New OMP Americas owner... how did I live without gloves?

Personally-I use nothing but Simpson. They have a bunch of models that work really well. Fit is also important. Other brands like Sparco, OMP and Momo are also very good.

Red or orange would work great for the rookie driver. You 'will' be passed and lapped so be ready for the point-bys. Trust me I needed brighter gloves this year.

I recommend the Sparco Fast Techs. They are sewn inside out so they are very comfortable. They fit like a... err... glove?
