1997 Honda Civic EX coupe. Stock D16Y8. A/T. 150K miles. Purchased car a year ago with no service records.
History: replaced all five mounts the first week of ownership. Anchor brand (lifetime) mounts.. yes, they are crap..I know.
Symptoms:
1) While car is in gear, brake pedal depressed, and engine is idling (ex: stop light) there is increased vibrations felt in the cabin and steering wheel as compared to when car is idling in park or neutral and brakes not engaged.
2) While driving at any speed, decelerating quickly car jerks with forward to back motion. Accelerating just after decelerating car jerks with same forward to back motion.
3) Driving at speeds above 60 notice increased vibration
Tests:
1) Visual.. didn't see any rips or tears. Hard to visually check rear mount #3
2) Son put car in drive while simultaneously engaging brakes and revved engine. I watched engine and it lifts up more than normal. Tested same way with transmission in reverse and engine again lifted more than normal
3) used a pry-bar.. lifted and shifted areas near all mounts except #3 (hard to get to). All mounts tested seem solid and without excessive play
Based on the symptoms my suspicion is the #3 mount but, since I can't seem to test it properly it's just a guess. Is there a way to isolate individual mounts? Is there any other part/area that could cause the described symptoms?
