Default torque converter, please help

ok so, i have a 06 acura tl my transmission has crapped out. so i decide to go with a 07 3.0 accord transmission. the accord transmission came with a torque converter that has a crack in it. the junk yard guy dropped it when loading it my truck, but i didnt see it at the time.

well i went to autozone to get a new one but the bolt patterns do not line up. the accord 3.0 torque converter bolt pattern is 11.250". the one that autozone has for the accord 3.0 transmission is 10.250". so it doest fit the acura tl flex plate.

my question is, why the TC on the accord 3.0 is 11.250" and the re-manufactured one from autozone is 10.250".

also can i use a TL tc in the 07 v6 accord transmission? any help would be greatly appreciated.

sorry new to forum i didnt know where to post. mods if you can delete dup post.

The converters don't match because they are not the same part, or are the wrong part.

If you plan on using a different transmission and converter, you need to confirm the parts will actually fit the the flex plate you have, or will fit together at all. This information can be found using part numbers from Honda.

I must say, as a seasoned rebuilder, you are better off rebuilding the unit you already have, than dealing with a transmission that you have not installed or tested at all.

Most transmission problems can be easily corrected with a rebuild kit, and a shift correction kit.

Not everyone in this forum swaps every known engine and transmission combination into a vehicle. There is leg work that must be done on your end to verify fitment. That may in most cases, involve you hitting the search function a few times.

Prior to starting the swap, I research for about a month. On Acurazine there have been a few people that have done the 04-06 Tl AV6 accord swap. It was advised to use the AV6 torque converter. This is where the issue for me started, as I state the AV6 transmission came with a crack converter. I went to order the TC from Autozone, the TC they have listed for AV6 didn't match the one that came with transmission.

I also went to a different junk yard to compare the AV6 trans. They were both the same, the one I got and the one that was at the new junk yard. I end up going with the TL TC. I also compare the two TC on Honda and Acura site, the last two digits were different. But I compared all the bolts and length of the shaft and they were the same.

The reason I didn't rebuild was because of the other forum. It was stated that the Av6 is a better transmission. I am no mechanic so I don't know how true that is. Also the shop I brought it to want 3k +/- to do the rebuild.

It's gone about 300 miles since I put it and it seem to be doing great. I don't know how long it will last, but of I can make it till summer I'll be happy with. I decide to do it myself because it was something I wanted to learn about. I only spent 1k to do the swap, that with a new TC and tools.

But thank you for your response. I'm pretty new to forums in general, i tried searching but couldn't find info on the TC or the swap. I did find a lot of info on the 03 Acura TL and Av6, but on the 04-06 TL swap.

When i worked at a junkyard we always tried to sell the torque converter with the flex plate to make sure of no mismatches like this. Slight differences between models can be a huge headache. Also parts store stuff is not always coded correctly and stuff that is not the same or correct can create problems. I have seen three parts labelled the same but obviously not be.

lol, yes it was a headache. When I ordered the TC from autozone I assumed it was the correct one. I didn't think to line it up with my flex plate. I put some ATF in, put it in the transmission and bolted it to the engine. Like I said, I am no mechanic so i have no tools. I put that transmission in with a car jack some 2x4s and strapped. It sucked taking out again. lol
