98' Accord 3.0 Coupe/Code-new ingition switch?
Just put my 5th ignition switch in my 98' Coupe that I have had since it was a year old -- those previous switches were done at Honda dealership ... 5th new tonight and obvious need code.
Anyone know what or where to find the code -- or do I HAVE to pay Honda for those codes?
Corp Honda will reinburse me for this switch and labor -- but for tonight my ASE mech is not Honda cert and I was hoping for quick answer ....
Thank you.
Laurie

If you're just replacing the electrical portion of the ignition switch, you shouldn't need to reprogram the PCM (car's computer) for the Immobilizer.
If you're replacing the key cylinder with a different key, then you need to reprogram the PCM (car' computer) for the new key's transponder. For a '98, some locksmith with the right equipment can do it.
If you have a new key, you can still get the car started by taping the old key end to end with the new key; so, the transponder is next to the receiver in the steering column. Then go to get it programmed.
As an alternative, if you didn't have the old key, Honda can give you the Immobilizer Brake Code, which you enter by using a series of pulling and releasing the parking brake level and turning the ignition switch.

Dear Tech8
So much help!
I love this sight!
You guys are so smart!
I am going to pass this onto my ASE ..... look for a key guy ..... another ASE of mine that did another ignition switch on my 98' a years ago told me today that he has a retired Honda tech come in after his labor to reprogram .... that ASE is 100 miles away ... so my new ASE is learning -- well so am I.
Wil pass your thoughts off to him and write an update to TRYING to avoid the dealership this weekedn hahahahaaaaa
Happy Halloween
