Hi guys,

I'm new here

I bought a 2000 Honda civic lx. I've driven it for about 500 miles so far (in all has 195k). This morning as I was heading off to work I shifted out of second into neutral as I was coming up to a stop sign. I went to shift into gear and there was nothing there. (clutched pushed in)

I then noticed that the shifter was super wobbly and that there were no gears to shift into. In fact you can move the shifter all over and find no gears. The car is stuck in neutral. You can also spin the shifter around (not sure if that helps)

Prior to this a few days back I noticed that the shifter was wobbly, and was a little hard to find the gears to shift into. (however everything did seem normal yesterday when I drove it)

This is my first manual, so I'm not super knowledgeable about them. I'm really not sure what the problem may be. Please help!

The guys I purchased the car from said that he had it serviced regularly, and said the clutch was replaced about 40k miles ago.

If you need more info let me know, I'll do my best to get the details.

shifter bushings are bad, and even when you were able to shift the bushings were bad during that time as well.

Now as for the tranny not going into gear, you'll need to jack up the car and support it on jack stands and have someone try to shift like normal (and not like a dick) to see what the issue.

 

It could be that a previous owner put a bolt through the shift linkage at the transmission, where the "bitch pin" is supposed to go. Bolt backed out, voila! No gears. I would check the linkage.

 

Oh yeah...well it still requires the Op to get under the car.

 

Alright, thanks for the advice! I'll start there; hopefully I can check it out in the next day or so and see what I can find.
