I have a 91 civic EF that is currently running on factory rims. Tire size is 175/70R13. I am thinking of getting another set of rims with winter tires to deal with the cold winter in Michigan...
I am thinking of sticking to the original size 175/70R13 because they are very affordable, and I heard narrow tires can have better traction in snow...
discount tire frequently has 13" and 14" tires at Excellent pricing but sometime you have to wait. I got a set of 4 cooper's for 89 bucks total shipped after rebates.
usually 13" or 14" tires go for 50-70 bucks a tire, and they have the rebates totalling 100 often.
I don't recommend going to 15" based on pricing goes way up from that size and bigger.
these are not snow tires, but for 89 shipped total, couldn't turn it down.
I Am looking at snows now, and they are anywhere from 160-about 220 shipped for a set of 4 new snow tires both discounttire direct and at tirerack. I Am waiting for a better sale than that.
for rims, in the winter, I recommend an older set of stock CRX Si wheels, 14" sawblades. they are really easy to clean up, the swirl spokes are smooth and clean off of dirt much easier than tiny thin spokes of a fully spoked wheel. Winter, being clean and easy has advantages.
