Got the motor to TDC on #1 properly in order to change timing belt. The camshaft sprocket markings though do not perfectly align with cylinder head! The motor was running good, albeit not quite perfect shes old & I got blowby on one cylinder. Starts are reliable but feel a smidge rough. Should I leave it and instal new belt as is or should I move the cam back maybe a tooth or two so it's perfectly lined up with the cylinder head. I'm not sure how critical the timing is here.
Had a hard time sleeping last night. Really appreciate any wisdom.
Not the engravements on the sprocket are not in line with the cyclinder head, as they ought to be.
on the Si D16A6, the marks at 3 o'clock and 9 o'clock do not line up with the top of the head like the D15 engine - the mark at 7 o'clock lines up with the pointer on the inside timing belt cover - look at the picture for the Si near the center of the page - also, make sure you are using the correct mark for TDC - it is the single mark off to the right of the three ignition timing marks
I just gave up on my 30 try or so to match up the 3 & 9 o'clock marks. Reading your post & walking back to the car I've got it pegged perfect. I can now start reassembly & working on the suspension parts. My Hanyne's repair manual has let me down.
you really should download a factory manual. I don't have links saved on this computer, but they are not hard to find, and they have the actual correct information for your car. I won't mess with Haynes, or Chiltons...unless I have no internet access and am working on a car that I have never downloaded the manual for, at one point I had them for at least a dozen different models of honda/acua.
