Half Shaft (Axle) choices
I'm browsing Amazon for axle choices for '92 Civic VX. Prices vary significantly, I don't mind spending more for better quality (and maybe MIUSA or MIJ). I'll buy from a FLAPS if that's smarter. What are you guys using?
Just curious, how is it "overthinking it" to ask for preferred axle brand/source, I would hope based on past experience (good or bad)? Unless all axles exactly the same quality - perhaps they are.
i vote for empire, it even has the harmonic balancer like the stealership axles.
cardone seems pretty decent as well.
yonaka makes some good axles too but more expensive, they also make some extra beefy intermediate halfshaft assemblies that are only like $80. stealers want $300-400, ouch.
raxles is great if you have even more money to burn.

Made in the same factory, by the same machines. The specs are, for all intents and purposes, the same. The only question is which vendor got the best batch this month, and which vendor got the defective batch. When you're just looking for a stock replacement axle, there's no reason to jump through hoops or worry about brand X vs brand Y. They're all effectively the same.

Auto parts store axles are a total crapshoot. Doesn't seem to matter what brands I've ever purchased. 75% of the time they vibrate right out of the box. You probably already know that since you're coming here asking for recommendations. I'm going to have to second tamboo on Raxles. They are more expensive but quality is far better than the cheap parts store axles.

raxles will stick you hard if you dont have honda axles to exchange.
if you dont then hop on car-part.com and find a pair to save some dough.
and why have i only seen the harmonic donut thing on some axles
if theyre all made in the same sweat shop?

Fair question. I bought it from my best friend, the original owner. I've known him longer than he owned the car. I've got complete maintenance records, as does the shop who did all the maintenance. So, I'm as sure as if I were the original owner.

I don't think Marty is even doing reman anymore, so cores are irrelevant. The last set I bought were brand new, $200 a side iirc. The cheaper ones are such a crap shoot, it's worth it to me to spend more on something that I know is going to be good.
I see Majestic Honda has remanufactured for $150 per. Anyone know about those? (Their OEMs say "May be discontinued" but are priced at $275.)
With the low hp e-vtec engine, autozone axles will be just fine, just be sure they have the lifetime limited warranty and you are golden no matter what.
With the 100 hp max you are not gonna break even cheap axles.
If you insist on top quality then I'd say The Driveshaft Shop level 0 or for power 2.9's for the 92-95 civics. 300 bucks but they are top notch and are proclaimed to outlast OEM being an improved design CV joint, oh and 800 for the 2.9's.

really, with the vtec-e you're worried about vibrations? its your money, but foolishly spent on expensive axles. advance almost always has 40 off 100 coupons... hit them up.
Yeah because any stock d-series needs beefy axles. 92hp vs. 126hp. The Z6 is a real axle breaker.
DSS axles suck anyway. OP read reviews. If it isn't the axles the owner Frank seems like quite a pleasant guy.
eH.

yes on the warranty. back in the days of track drag racing our cars, with horrible suspension and street tires, we brought a few trans side b series axles each. when one snapped, it was replaced on the spot. warranty returned countless times at vatozone.
