just wondering if anyone had some info on the most boost people have run on stock internals with an audi 1.8t.

 

assuming proper engine cooling and fuel delivery systems are in place

 

Is this the new A4 or the old one? Anyways you should read the new turbo magazine that has a modded yet internally stock Golf 1.8t. I think they are the same motor as the audi a4s, I guess ive learned something reading eurotuner, anyways hes making over 400 hp with stock internals.

 

not the newest one (im looking at 98-99) i believe its the same engine w/ a K03. im pretty sure they come off the factory w/ .5 bar of boost, and i know a common first step is a chip that brings you to 1 bar. wondering if people have been pushing it significantly past that.

 

couple vw people i know have been running alittle over 1 bar. boost gauge some times spikes from 14-18 psi, no probs at all. stock fuel setup just chipped w/bolt-ons.

 

I had a tuned 1.8T and know a little about the motor. It's generally accepted that the stock internals can handle <400hp before you need to consider bulding the bottom end.

The max boost you can run on the stock turbo effectively is about 1bar as the K03 is very small, with the slightly larger K04 you can run ~1.2bar.

None of that will get you close to 400HP though. To really tax the internals you are gonna be looking for something like a GT30.

The 1.8T is an awesome motor, well worth a look if you can afford to tune one.
