46 years as a tech but retired for last 12 years.
my sons accord was running fine but then shut down. I have checked everything I know to. Belt is fine, all injectors are pulsing and it's firing on every hole. Fuel pressure is fine.
Starts intermittently but only runs on two holes but its not always the same two.. If it does start it will go to exactly 1500 rpm and then shut down like you turned the key off.
Son said it made a odd high pitched whine a few minutes before it started this problem.
Have been told these things are notorious for distributor failure at high mileage.
Its a LX non vtec

Any ideas would be greatly apprecated.

Atleast take the cap off and take a good look inside. See if you see any debris.

You say the belt is fine, but maybe it slipped a tooth or two. Check the mechanical timing.

 

new distributor, cap, rotor, wires, plugs, and coil. Checked the mechanical timing and it's on the money. scanning doesn't reveal any codes other than a EGR code.

 

I'm not very experienced but I do know that the ignition switch on these Accords go bad, and that sounds like a symptom of a bad one. Other than that maybe IAC? IAVC?
