I suggest you find another non-vtec engine to make it easy.

You'll need to replace the transmission and wire the 3 stage VTEC.

Or you'll need to wire it in yourself. And yes, but you'll need the transmission from the same trim of car, which is going to be...entertaining to find.

You're overthinking it. Stop overthinking it. Just get a D16Y7, or a Y7 replacement motor. You aren't going to see any noticeable difference in doing the 3 stage VTEC swap, but you will have a massive pain in the *** time trying to get it to work correctly.

Engine is one thing, transmission is another. GL if you decide to do this. NOT EASY AS YOU MAKE IT SOUND.

I just want something reliable for the wife heard the D15B was alittle bit more reliable than the D16A i called these guys and they told me that the only thing i would need to do is switch out the ECU Hondas are not my forte but i know that reliability also goes in hand With proper maintenance, now that being said i told my wife to do constant checks on the car but she failed to and this is her hard lesson i guess. I could have checked it my self but i wanted her to see that its not all bs because i like doing oil changes every 2 months (not needed ) but makes me fell better

There is zero reason for a D15B to be more reliable than a D16A. They're just trying to push what they have extras of. You'll need much more than the ECU to make it run correctly, and since you have an automatic, even the ECU they sell you probably won't work correctly with your car. The TCU (transmission control unit) is integrated into the ECU in USDM 96-00 cars. If they sell you an ECU, it will most likely be for a manual car, which means it won't be capable of controlling your transmission. Even if it is from an automatic, the transmission for that engine is different than the transmission you have, so the TCU won't know how to control your transmission. Does that make sense? It's kind of convoluted, I just want to make sure you understand what's we're talking about.

Get a D16Y7 replacement. Stick with that.

It should last 200k miles or more, with just basic maintenance and care.
