Default window regulator swap or conversion?

Wondering if anyone out there can confirm this for me. I have a Japanese passenger door, the LEFT one installed on my 97 civic. If I ordered a used or new window regulator with motor and put in a used door wire harness off another civic of comparable north american model/year, will the new/used regulator line up properly? Plugging in the right side control to roll the window up and down on the female plug on the LEFT door doesn't operate the window. I know there are people out there that find wiring easy... I find it confusing. So, the next best option I could think of is swap the regulator/motor and wires with the N.American version and be able to roll the window up and down. I don't have the parts in front of me to tell and I figured someone might have stumbled into a similar issue.
