Default 2003 Civic EX Manual Transmission rubbing /grinding noise.

Ok, I have looked a lot of places but can't find anyone with the issue I am having. When I accelerate or decelerate I get a sound that sounds like something is rubbing. This only happens when I am moving and the clutch is not pressed. It does not make any noise when setting still with clutch pressed or not pressed only when moving and it only happens when you accelerate or decelerate to point that there is pressure on the transmission. If you are in the sweet spot that no pressure is on the transmission the noise goes away. Like after you pickup speed and let off the gas and the car is not being slowed down by the gears. I have a video on YouTube I took. Hopefully someone can point me in the right direction. https://youtu.be/wIgroOsN4mA

Thank You,

Shaun

Have you attempted to jack the car up and rotate the wheels separately (by hand) to see if you get the noise while the engine is off?

Not yet I will try that. It is strange it only does it under load either
when accelerating and decelerating but not in neutral, or clutch is pushed
down or when it is not under hard load like Gearing down or speeding up.

Does it make any noise when stationary, and the clutch engaged in neutral?

That makes me think more "rolling assembly" style issues, like a wheel bearing. Does it change pitch when you change gears? Or is it a steady noise?

I definitely see it as something in the transmission because it only happens when in gear, moving and clutch is engaged. If I am moving and I either push on clutch or put in nutrual the scrubbing stops immediately.

Ok update, did not see anything by spinning flywheel by hand but I did figure out it causes a drag when it makes the noise because I was in traffic today and if I let off the gas it may not start the noise right away but when it does I can feel it slow down the car more than normal and ifor o pay close attention I can feel drag during acceleration. It seems to come and go during both acceleration and breaking.

Hey guys. I just did a clutch for my little bro on his 2003 LX. He bought a complete OEM Honda Clutch kit with pilot and throwout bearings. I put everything together and now his car has the same exact grinding/rubbing noise as the OP has stated! Everything sounds exactly as he explained.
I have done about 20 Honda/Acura clutches and about half of them were EM1 and EM2s and I have NEVER encountered this kind of issue.

You are going to have to take apart the transmission and inspect bearings!!! It’s most likely going to be the main input shaft bearing because that’s what I found bad on my transmission. It’s fairly easy to remove and install!
