NC The "OG VX", Ecomodder 65mpg+ EG hatch
Text or call me at (704) 408-7395; Daniel
We’ll, the time has come for me to part ways with the OG VX. I wasn’t planning to sell it, but life has taken a turn of late, in we are in need of funds for other things. Honestly, out of all of my project cars, this is the hardest one to let go. I think the new owner will find this to be a true “driver’s car”. I guarantee you’ll fall in love within 5 minutes of driving it.
Rather than eeking through a mod list, please just read my build thread from top to bottom. I know that it is long, but to be blunt, I don’t want to sell the car to someone who hasn’t read it. I figure if a person doesn’t care enough to read about how this project evolved to this state, than they likely will not take proper care of the vehicle after buying it.
My Build Thread on Honda-Tech can be found by clicking here.
Also, don’t be surprised if I call you about a year from now and make an offer to buy it back from you. Seriously, I probably will! :D
Asking price: $4,500.00.
1992 Civic VX; drivetrain is completely stock. Only mods are aero and lowering springs.
186,000 miles or so on the odometer.
Good Stuff: Car is mega smooth on the road (drive with a finger at cruise); 65 average city/hwy MPG with NO EOC and car-on at idle. I don't do all that crazy mess, and car is still breaking 65 easy this summer. This VX is mechanically strong, no issues. Great tires, though they are due for a rotation.
Bad Stuff: Needs a new radio. The car will need new front brake pads in about 5K miles or so. Not an urgent need, however. I just noticed them getting thinner when I was working on my custom fenders. The car could also use an alignment, as I never did this after putting on the Eibach lowering springs. As a result, It has a very slight pull to the right.
Here's three preview pics of a shoot i did earlier today:

Here's a Slideshow of the complete shoot, with about 60 pics:

I had a blast on this one, gave it my best. Driving in this car puts a smile on my face every time. Hopefully it will do the same for someone else's.
i read all ten pages of your thread before commenting on this post, trying to justify the asking price and fandom of this car. i came away with this: tons of cheap-o ebay electronics, spraypainted parts, 6 destroyed body panels. i can look past that on a build, the style of it is unique. what i can't look past are lowering springs that are absolutely not intended for oem struts being used, mechanic in a can to attempt to correct compression at the lower level of the service limit, and synchro mesh to mask trans issues. these are major mechanical issues, and you've neglected to actually do anything about them. as the seller of a vehicle, don't you think mentioning information as pertinent as the fact that the engine in this car is VERY tired and the transmission has been fed band-aid fluid is important?

SOLD.
All details were disclosed to the new owner. It's a great car. It was within service limit. Compression is fine and more than operable. The transmission was 25 years old. It was a bit crunchy in the shifting, nothing major. Syncomesh brought it up to a very nice condition. Many people do this with older transmissions. It's widely acceptable and there's nothing wrong with it.
Eghatch9295, I'm confused as to why you are being so aggressive, even to come here and make me out to be some sort of conman? Nonetheless, even despite your criticism, the car has been sold to a great new owner. He drove it in person, he drove it 200 miles home. He still likes it. And I can guarantee you he will for years to come. Hmmm, not sure what else I need to waste my time typing here.
Lets see: This is a 25 year old Honda that achieves 65 mpg average and puts smiles on people faces, including the owner(s), was built for less than $5K, scored more attention at it's first show than the $70K Nissan GTR parked across from it, and sold for no financial loss to me. Correct, I did not totally rebuild the engine and tranny, spending hours and lots of $$ to lose all relevant profit at a future time of sale, or to defeat the purpose of an "eco" build. Nor will the new owner, because it's just not practical for a less-than-$5K car. Nor is it necessary, as it drives great, and no mechanical compromises were made. It's safe, powerful, and reliable.
Thanks for your efforts to try and save this pocket of the internet, but I think we are good here?!

defensive, maybe? age is irrelevant. disclosure of known issues in a for sale ad is not only the right thing to do, but the legal thing to do. synchromesh is not a repair, same as radiator stop leak isn't a repair. its a stop-gap, same as the stuff you ran thru the engine to achieve a slight bump in compression. ethics, my friend, ethics.
And yes, that is correct. Not that it matters, but it did get more attention than the 8 stock GTR (35)'s that were present. Beautiful cars, of course, way more detailed and purpose built than pretty much any car in the lot. But, nonetheless, people were more interested in something different.
I won't elaborate on your weld comment. Perhaps someone else with a bit of intellect can enter the thread to defend me there. smh
[QUOTE=eghatch9295;50554607]defensive, maybe? /QUOTE]
You came at me pretty hard, on a wide open public forum, making me out to be some sort of con man. Even followed me to my FS thread to spread your poison here too. Yes, I was, and am still, on the defense about that. Any normal person would feel the same.
And, while I am not homosexual, I find your signature to be offensive. Many on this forum would probably find that offensive, for what it's worth.
There's nothing wrong with turkey burgers, and it's unfair to pinpoint a choice in meat of a burger towards a correlation with a person's sexual orientation.
So there, now you too know how it feels to have someone take your words and run a country mile with them.
Enjoy your manly, all-angus, Baconator. I hope it adds some hairs to your chest.

It's a quote from the movie "Ted". Your bible beating in your build thread may also offend people. Your comment and attitude have brought attention to a serious issue with society as a whole- everything offends everyone. In America, you have the right to praise Jesus all over the interwebs (an act that would get you in some very serious **** in some parts of the world), same as I have the right to add a harmless funny movie quote to a meaningless e-signature. Poison? HAH! I would be very pissed (and I think anyone would be) if someone knowingly sold me a car with borderline low compression and didn't tell me. Throw all the smoke you want, hoss, but you are wrong. Period.
PS- WWJD? I am pretty sure he wouldn't hide known issues.

I can't see how posting a car for sale and specifically requesting anyone that is seriously interested read the entire build thread would make him a con artist?
How often do you purchase a car and get to know that many details about it? I don't think the seller tried to hide anything or mislead anyone personally.
The very fact that YOU KNOW some of the issues with the car is proof alone that the seller did not hide it.

the seller listed a "good" and "bad" list. something as glaring as a motor issue should be prominently listed, not an easter egg in a 10 page thread.
9295EGHatch, thanks for tripling my view count on this FS thread..since the car sold. Being as this is my last post, I'll miss our bantering. It was quite fun, and I wish you the best.
Another thing this thread proves, people love drama!
I didn't hide "an issue". It wasn't an issue. The engine was well within service level, and all the cylinders were even. There was no real reason to even test the compression to begin with when I did it. I just did it to be scientific, it sounded fun, I had never done that before and wanted to try it, and ultimately: as a fail safe. I merely tested the engine to see if it was a car worth continuing a project with. As you can see, that compression test was very early on in my project. It was one of the first things I did. I put thousands of miles on the car after that point. No smoking, no burning oil. It's so tight of an engine, I never even thought to do the compression test again. By the point that it was time to sell, if fell off my radar as even being an issue at all. I wasn't hiding anything. It wasn't my intent to withhold any issues on the post. Nor, in retrospect, do I feel that I did.
I never even wanted to part with the car. Life just made that decision for me, which happens. Now, I HAVE had an oil-burning, hot mess Honda before. This is not one of those cars.
Thank you.

Why is there a problem with this car that was sold? Ole boy put it out there, potential buyers should do their HW, read, and ask questions right? Idk why people are bitching, white knight central now in the vehicles for sale section?
