Looking @ buying a 1991 CRX-HF
As the title says, I am looking at a 1991 CRX-HF. What do you all know about them. Common issues? Any insight would be great. Car has 155k on it, and is a 5-spd. Looks clean.
Common issues include being old, having rust, being old, worn rubber pieces, being old, worn motor parts, being old, needing engine repair, being old, smoking, being old, etc
Seriously though, definitely take some photos and test drive it. The car is 25 years old, it will need some love. 155k isn't too bad though.

Its had a southern life, fla to ga thats it. 2 owner car, and yea I know its older. I was hoping for some 1st hand experience with driving the HF. Reported that it needs a TB and WP, included in the sale, honda parts. I can do that on that car in a day. What is it like with the tall gearing of this particular HF model. Reported a best MPG of 60. Thanks for the feed back.
Tall gearing? It's fine. I drove a STD hatch for a long time. Needs a timing belt and water pump? I wouldn't trust it. If you can't drive it, as is, I wouldn't pay much. Sounds like it has probably over heated.
I will clarify, He bought the parts as preventative maintenance. Its derivable, no overheat, and the belt on the car is intact. He is asking $4200. I dot know much more about these particular cars. I say tall gearing because from what I read the HF model had taller, or longer gearing, which helped with getting the car to do 60MPG.

His add just went down, but I to felt the price was a bit strong. I will see if he reposted it. It was, from the pics, a clean car. 2 owner.
Here is the add.

A nice car. Definitely check for rust. I know it isn't the rust belt, but sea salt (it is from the beach) does a pretty good job of rusting things out.
Still, $4200 is at least a thousand more than I'd be willing to pay. Check the 'what is it worth' thread at the top of the page. I posted the CRX Si I bought in there. The condition is 'similar' I'd say. The original engine is nice, but the HF really isn't that desirable amongst collectors. Most want the Si from what I can tell.

Yes I agree an SI has more value by far, and I would prefer one, but from what I have found, in my area they are all clapped out. I to feel his price is high. Maybe I will go look at it and see what I find.
Keep looking, but don't feel obligated to buy it just because it is the best one right now. You can go in there and offer him something you feel comfortable paying, which is all that matters. If he says no, just walk away and thank him/her for their time. No worries.
